Spend a few moments being led to reflect on Christ's glory

Creation Care

Image
On Sunday we began to reflect on what it might mean for us to care for God's world and why this is an important part of our discipleship. To help you think further here are a few links: 1. Watch again the 'Climate Change' video   2. Explore the websites of organisations that are helping Christians think about caring for creation.

Anything planned Easter?

Word Alive is going online in 2021.  Read the latest update (below) and then why not put the dates in your diary. You'll see the organisers are trying to take into account all the varying demands of life in a Covid world. And just think the benefit of a conference from the comfort of your own home.  Message from the organisers (Feb 2021).  "While we can't recreate the full experience of Word Alive online, we can provide resources that connect you to God's word and give something of the flavour of the event. In particular we can offer some of the teaching, training and children's work that many so value about Word Alive. We are very aware that in the actual week of Word Alive, many of us will have limited capacity due to work and family commitments or simply through fatigue with online interaction. So we have decided to offer a simplified programme during the week, and then to make more material available in the following weeks. 6–9 April: Something for everyone

The absence of small talk - does it matter?

Image
I wonder what you miss most about church life?  Let's be honest even socially distanced church life had some things that were notable by their absence. Here's a few of mine.. Seeing someone's smile.  Singing and hearing others sing. Children and their toys galloping up the steps into the building.  Greeting others with a hug/handshake/'high five' (delete as fits your personality).  Snatched conversations in the foyer.  Small talk over coffee.  Longer chats that catch up on life and 'put the universe to right' - well at least our small corner of it! There are others - but that's enough.  What would be yours?  It seems the pandemic has had an impact on a whole range of relationships, what one psychologist has called 'friendship funnelling' but what if 'small talk' and casual interaction has an important part to play in life. Today's article on 'Church small talk was more important than I thought' is one person's reflection o

Working from home.

Image
Many of us have been working, studying or teaching from home for almost a year. Perhaps there was a window of time when we made it back into the office, stepped foot onto campus or stood in front of a whole class but the experience didn't last!   So what have we learnt in this new reality? And for those of us who follow Jesus, what difference does this make to the way we approach work when the office/school/uni, the home and cyberspace all overlap! Read some initial thoughts from an old LICC post and then follow the trail and see how their reflections develop.  The prayer they show in part is quoted in full below. A prayer by Will Sorrell Almighty God, Giver of Work and Rest, I awake, and I am with you. My commute is a trudge from bed to desk, a stepping over toys and garments, feet that feel like miles. Ready my body to face unfamiliar tasks in this familiar place. My eyes are prone to wander alone. My ears are prone to hear my flesh over your Spirit. My lips are prone to

The silent pandemic

Image
The impact of the pandemic is visible all around us.  It has touched and continues to touch the everyday as well as life's big events.  Yet another concern is coming to the fore. One that may have a lasting legacy. So what can we do to help ourselves and others? Read an interview with a Clinical Neuropsychologist -  'Stepping up in the Silent Pandemic'   Or Listen to 'Voices from the frontline' , where a psychiatrist reflects on the strains of Covid on our mental health.  Myton Church is hosting an event exploring the impact of the pandemic on our mental health. Book your place and come along and join us at 7.45pm on Saturday, March 6th.

Grishma updates us on Nayagaun Church, Pokhara We hope and trust that you have been doing well! I just would like to update a few points from Nayagaun, Pokhara - After 10 months of closed down (so far we had online Church services) now from 30th January we are going to open the Church and will be having fellowship physically, we will have two services (sessions). The construction of the Aged Care Centre building is ongoing on and now interior final works are being done, we hope that after a few months (2 or 3 months) we will be able to do the opening ceremony! Please continue to pray for this wonderful work. Recently we went to a remote village named Tare, in Parbat district and dedicated a newly built Church building, that is one of our sister Churches. (picture is enclosed) Some of our Church members were caught COVID-19 positive, some of them already passed through and now negative! Some are still in the isolation, sadly one died. As a Church we continue to pr

Working from rest

Image
Explore LICC's 'Working from Rest' resource. Sabbath rest is essential to our identity as God’s people: a gift to refresh us and equip us for good work. B ut many of us find it hard to do – either because life seems unstoppably busy, or because the pressures and demands we are faced with seem overwhelming. This 40-day prayer journey will help you explore the reasons for restlessness, God’s gift of rest, and how your work – in your job, your home, or your street – can flow from that place of rest and connection with him. As you pray and reflect on examples from the Bible, you’ll develop fresh habits of godly rest, learn how to work fruitfully instead of relentlessly, and grow in trust for the loving heavenly Father who holds your days in his hands .
