At home with the Mezei family

Life in lockdown with the Mezei family

1. Introduce yourselves

We're Chris and Nicoleta (Daddy and Mommy), and Isaac and Clara - also known as the Mezei family. We've been coming to Myton for about four years now. We are originally from Romania, but we moved to England 12 years ago, so we call this country home.

2. What impact has the current lockdown had on you both?

To be honest, not many things have changed in our day to day lives since we both work from home and would have spent most of our time around the house. Chris is extremely vulnerable, needs permanent care and has to shield. So all of us are doing so along with him. This has been tough, especially with young children and not being able to go out of your home.

3. What does your ‘normal day’ now look like?

Every days looks the same (apart from Sundays!) so it can be a bit tiring at times. Kids wake up at 7am, then everyone needs to be prepared for the day, which takes about 2 hours. We have breakfast and our devotional time and then Chris is off to work, whilst Nicoleta and kids are off playing/cooking/spinning plates. We all come together for lunch and then nap time for the kids. Afternoons are more laid back and then at 5 pm Chris joins everyone for play just before dinner. Before you know it is 7pm and we start the night routine!

4. Tell us one encouragement you’ve experienced whilst in lockdown?

God is FOR us! And IN us! Even when we are locked away in our homes. He works His purposes through us even now, especially now, if we let Him. We've been amazed to see how he can use us even when we think we have our 'hands tied'.

5. Any funny moments you are willing to share?

Lockdown haircut. I (Nicoleta) usually cut the boys' hair anyway but this time I was doing it whilst Boris Johnson was announcing that the UK is going under lockdown. I had the clippers in one hand and the phone in the other, watching the news! Chris' face was priceless. I just told him to relax, nobody will see him anyway!

6.  Tell us one thing you are finding challenging.

Not seeing our families in Romania. It would be dangerous for them and Chris to travel, and it could be that this year they will not visit at all.

7. What aspect of God’s character or work have you been enjoying?

His sovereignty. We can rest assured that He holds us fast and all that is happening around us is in His control.

8. Give us something we can pray for you.

Patience, grace and creativity. The lockdown for us is going to be a long one. We need all of these to stay afloat each day.
