A letter from the Elders


A Call to Prayer and Fasting – Saturday 11th April

 “What if God was bringing his entire church, globally, to its knees, in utter dependence and weakness? What then?” Chris Green 


During this time where our country and the world is significantly affected by COVID-19 others across our world have been praying and fasting and so we as a church eldership are calling the church to pray and fast on Saturday 11th April.

We will be joining with Saltisford, Emmanuel and Kenilworth Community churches to pray for our county, nation and world.

To help with this, we have attached a pdf that the Gospel Coalition (in the United States) produced for their day of prayer and fasting a week ago.

It is a helpful resource, so please look at it and use it. Do note however that we are suggesting a slightly different pattern to tailor it to our situation.

Our personal circumstances will determine what is appropriate for us. Some of us may be able to fast for the whole day – others not.  We might feel able just to forego one meal.  If we are ill or frail, it may be best for us to pray but not to fast.   We may also have to juggle other responsibilities such as looking after children.

With this in mind the elders suggest using the time we each have available in the following three ways:

1.      Praying alone using the pdf resource to help.

2.      Praying with other members of Myton church.  For some of us, this could be as a household.  If applicable, children that are old enough could be encouraged to be involved.  For others of us, this could be linking up via Zoom or some other means with members of our house group or a group of friends.  Again, do use the pdf resource to help you with your prayers.

3.      Praying with those from the other churches.  Some of us may be in a position to link up with those we know in these congregations.  Alternatively, at 1.00 pm we are arranging a Zoom link up between some of the churches, where designated individuals from each will lead in prayer.  Then all those who wish will be assigned to Zoom break-out groups, enabling all to pray with a few others.  Further details about joining this meeting will be sent out tomorrow (Good Friday).  

Please embrace this as a great opportunity to come before God in prayer and fasting on a day when we know others are doing the same.  In order to make the most of the day,

It would be helpful for us each to do a few things in advance:

·         Pray that on Saturday we would all be helped by the Holy Spirit to intercede with insight and urgency.

·         Plan how we will spend the day, talking this through with others where co-ordination is needed.

·         Make any arrangements of timings to pray with others.

Over recent weeks, in both our morning congregations, we've been trying connect with one another's lives beyond 'Sunday' by hearing from someone about what they will be doing the following day. Obviously this has normally meant Monday morning - but this week we are shifting the question to the end of the week and asking...  'What will you be doing at midday tomorrow (Friday 27th)?' What has the early part of 2020 held for you? I finished my Fine Art degree at home during lockdown, and although it was really disappointing not to be able to exhibit in the normal physical Final Year Degree Show, you can see some of my work here.   What are you planning to do next and why? Next year I will be based in London volunteering with a University and Colleges Christian Fellowship (UCCF):  UCCF: The Christian Unions is a fellowship of students, staff and supporters that aims to give every university student in the UK an opportunity to hear and respond to the great news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Going to university is a formative time for many. Someone has the chance to question the beliefs, ideas, and ways of living they were brought up with. It can be a key time to explore faith and make big life decisions independently. Reaching your neighbours - the Mezei's front window!

It feels like yesterday we were doing Christmas in our house. Last year we so enjoyed getting ready for it, celebrating Advent, probably the proper way for the first time. Lockdown has its uses J ! As Lent came round we asked ourselves why we give more importance to Advent and not to Lent. Surely both are as important! Both are amazing news for humanity. So we decided to do Advent the ‘right’ way this year. Of course, with a one and four year old, it might look a lot different to how others celebrate it, but we found ways to involve everyone in our family and to make it meaningful. In December, like others in the church, we made use of our front window to make a giant nativity scene. Let’s just say that if anyone had any doubts we were Christians, they now knew better! The kids so enjoyed making it and adding to it as Advent progressed (although Clara was not too sure she liked her baby doll in the window!).
